We Baptists enjoy a level of congregational autonomy unknown in other mainstream denominations. How does it work, and how do we approach decision making? How do we as community discern God’s will together? In this the 400th anniversary year of Baptist beginnings, this morning we briefly explore the theology and distinctive characteristics of our Baptist way of doing things, and some guidelines for how we can ensure that the processes we employ lead us to places where we are open to being led and guided by God’s Spirit.

Tell me what has been the most memorable experience that you have had working with children in gardening?
Oh gosh! There must be a thousand…….Perhaps, yes I know. The most memorable experience was watching some of the children racing to school early in the morning to see if their lettuce seeds had began to grow. The day after they planted them they were disappointed not to see whole lettuces in the garden. Each day they would come and watch until about the seventh day there were thousands upon thousands of tiny little green shoots pushing up through the soil. The kids were so ecstatic. They couldn’t believe their eyes to see all those seedlings. They were shocked, how in one small packet there could be so many seeds. They were really surprised to learn how lettuces grow.
When provided with the correct conditions the miracle of a seed germinating and growing happens each day. So too our community will grow if nurtured with love, compassion, empathy and care.

Life is a journey. There are many exciting and joyous moments along with struggles and difficult times. This morning our worship time focuses around the Dr Seuss’ book “Oh the places you’ll go” as we encourage our children to embrace life. God invites you to enter fully into the journey of life, whatever adventure, struggle or joy might come your way,
