Community News
+ Finding it hard to get a carpark on a Sunday morning? Try checking out the Harrow Street carpark a few minutes’ walk from the church. It is free on Sundays from 8am to midnight.
+ Do you have a spare fridge? We’re hoping to locate a free, good condition fridge for a member of the community who is struggling without one. If you might have, or know of, a spare fridge have a chat to Eddie.
+ The Village Well (our community services arm) is supporting the development of a new community Chess Club. If Bishops and Rooks are your thing, come along on Monday, 6pm-8pm, for a friendly game.
+ Our new multi-language translation service, known as Breeze, worked well last Sunday when it was launched at Box Hill Baptist. Our people used Italian, Maori, Khmer, Persian, Mandarin, Bahasa, Cantonese and most said it was very accurate and the delay was minimal. Bring your phones along, use the QR code or this link: https://boxhillbaptistchurch.breeze-translate.com/client then select your language. Would you also bring your headphones or ear buds so you can check the audio quality? These will also help us to keep our heads up so we can see the speaker and the pictures on the screen. Keep giving us your feedback.
+ You may have noticed the small bowl of sand and candles to the right of the pulpit. This is available at every service and it may be an aid to prayer as you light a candle at the beginning or anytime during a service.
Pointers for Prayer
+ Please pray for Grazia Sedawie’s family. Grazia’s 92-year-old mother has been in hospital with chest pains, Grazia’s daughter, Lily, is in hospital as is Simone (another member of the clan) who is recovering after surgery. Healing, peace, trust in God.
+ Watch the special NAIDOC Week 2025 conversations between Common Grace storyteller, Safina Stewart and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders Uncle Vince Ross, Aunty Dr Esme Bamblett and Aunty Professor Doseena Fergie. Pray for them as they share their heart, vision and hope for the next generation.
+ In respect to Vahid and Mina’s application for permanent residence, they received a further word from the Minister of Immigration’s office this week via Dr Carina Garland’s office (MP for Chisholm). They were told that “their application is still in the queue… this process will still take several more months… there is a high level of confidence for a positive outcome.” Pray for the team at Minister Thistlethwaite’s office (Assistant Minister for Immigration) who is handling this matter. Pray for patience and trust for Mina and Vahid as they continue to wait.

+ Blessing for the New Financial Year
by Michael McGirr, Mission Facilitator for Caritas Australia,
Let us give thanks for the real bottom line,
the place where we think less of profit and loss,
and more of gratitude and compassion.
The world is full of columns and numbers and spreadsheets
and God knows we need to attend to such matters
because injustice thrives in confusion,
and power does not like to be made accountable.
But none of us works for a line in a ledger.
We work to make the world more whole.
Jesus knew a lot about money.
Thirty pieces of silver, one hundred denarii, the head of Caesar on a coin, the widow’s mite, the workers who came late, the parable of the talents, the gold at his birth, the traders in the temple, the tax collector, the treasure in a field, the pearl of great price, the lots cast for his underwear, the rich young man who went away sad, the eye of a needle.
He built deep questions around such stories and images.
What are we making of the world? Why? How will we grow?
The question ‘Who am I?’ is answered in another: ‘Who is your neighbour?’
May we be hungry this year rather than greedy.
Hungry for kindness and encounter.
Spendthrift of grace.
Reckoned by love.
Amen.
