Community News

  • Nepal Floods Response: Nepal has experienced devastating flash flooding this week, causing significant loss of life and widespread destruction. Baptist World Aid has launched a disaster appeal to support affected communities. You can give through bwaa.co/Nepal or place money in an envelope marked ‘Nepal’ in the offering bag this Sunday.
  • Church office relocation: from 7 September, the ground floor of the Village Well (5 Ellingworth Pde) is being leased to the Australia China Yangtze Delta Chinese Association to support their work with Chinese seniors in the area. This means the church office and some activities (such as Bible & Chat) are moving to other spaces in the church this week — details to follow.
  • Worship roster: the new roster for our Sunday worship needs has been put together at last. There are gaps where we need volunteers — for morning tea, communion, greeting at the door, or audio-visual/livestreaming. Helping out once every few weeks makes a huge difference — email the office or talk to Michelle if you can help.
  • Our Deacons meet this coming Monday (7 September) for the September church meeting.

Upcoming Events

  • Exploring Faith course begins Friday 11 September, 7pm, running weekly on Fridays.

Food for Thought, Prayer and Action

  • James White writes of The Death of Reading, why this matters and how we can contribute to a resurrection.
  • Poet, novelist, farmer and conservationist Wendell Berry, a prophet of our time, died this week. This New York Times article gives a full report on his contribution. One of his much-loved poems is ‘The Peace of Wild Things’ — you can listen to Wendell Berry reading it at this link, and read more in this Religion News Service article.
  • Stories from around the Baptist churches in Victoria.
  • A prayer for Nepal: God of mercy, we pray for all people affected by the devastating flooding across Nepal. Please comfort families who have lost loved ones, bring hope to those who have lost homes and livelihoods, and surround vulnerable communities with your peace and protection.

Small Groups @ BHBC

Box Hill Baptist Church runs a number of small groups which create opportunities to build friendships, study the Bible and other resources, pray and strengthen our spiritual journeys.

If you are interested in any of the groups below, feel welcome to contact the convenor, or speak to one of our pastors. (And if you’d like to be part of a group but these don’t work for you, come and speak to us and we’ll see if we can start something new!)

  • Bible & Chat: Currently each Tuesday, 7:15pm for a 7.30pm start at the Gallery. The group normally reflects on a Scripture passage for the following Sunday service. Convenor: Geoff Pound.
  • KYB (Know Your Bible): Tuesdays fortnightly via Zoom. Convenor: Helen Timms.

Next Sunday – 13 September 2026 at 10am

Worship Leader: Geoff Pound; Preacher: Eddie Chapman.

Scripture: Revelation 3: 1-6. Reflections on the Letter to the Church in Sardis.

Theme: We continue our ‘Listening to the Spirit’ series based on The Letters to the Seven Churches, pondering the call to action for Box Hill Baptist as we listen to the Spirit.
