When God moved into the neighbourhood…

One of the Scripture passages about the coming of Jesus at Christmas has been translated this way:

The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish. (John 1: 14)

Could this be the way that people understand and embrace the Christmas gift?

When we flesh out the good news in our neighbourhood.

When our actions match our words.

When we engage with neighbours without any agenda to convert them or bring them to church.

When we connect with no strings attached.

When we show genuine unconditional acceptance of people.

When we follow the one who was labelled ‘the friend of sinners.’

When we simply love the people in our neighbourhood.

No programmes. No strategies. Simply imitating Jesus and living out a different way around where we live.
